THE REAL ESTATE CONSULTANCY FIRM’S MILAN OFFICE HAS ACHIEVED THE WELL GOLD CERTIFICATION
With the achievement of the WELL GOLD certification, CBRE’s Milan office, located in Piazza degli Affari 2, is officially the healthiest in Italy. It’s the first office to achieve the GOLD rating in the "New & existing interiors" category in the Country and the third CBRE office WELL certified in Europe, after the firm’s offices in Madrid and Barcelona. The first WELL certified office in the world was CBRE’s headquarters in Los Angeles in 2014.
The certification singles out offices where the design and development is focused on comfort of people living the space: the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) defines parameters and analyse the impact of a built environment on the behaviour and the well-being of its occupiers, aiming to advance health by setting performance standards and to improve comfort and productivity. There are 10 concepts in WELL: air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind and community.
To achieve this rating, CBRE has implemented several initiatives on the advice of its Sustainability Team. Among others, the high presence of natural settings and plant walls, height adjustable desks in order to be able to work while standing up, the promotion of a healthier and less sedentary working lifestyle, the smoking ban inside its internal and external spaces, a Wellness Room focused on employees relax and a library with many titles about wellness, well-being, healthy nutrition and mindfulness. Much attention has been dedicated to a proper hydration and nutrition: CBRE employees have access to free fruit and only healthy food & beverage is provided inside the office. The Company has started a constant monitoring of air changes, air and water quality and the adoption of specific cleaning policies, with adequate equipment and EcoLabel certified cleaning products. With the aim of raising awareness on these issues between employees and clients, CBRE has also launched a campaign using videos and infographic posters around the office.
"Today, a clear well-being policy and the ability to provide employees with a healthy working lifestyle are fundamental and essential for a Company. It’s a key factor in increasing employee satisfaction and productivity and therefore the company performance, but it also allows a better talent attraction and retention. It’s a huge gratification to be the first ever in Italy to have achieved this rating and it’s also a proof of the expertise within our Company." Alessandro Mazzanti, CEO | CBRE Italy
On top of the well-known policies related to sustainability and efficiency, certified by LEED and BREEAM, employees’ well-being is nowadays a strategic factor for all world-class companies: according to several studies, a built environment focused on well-being can reduce absenteeism and improve productivity up to 62% and creative thinking up to 110%.
The project has involved the entire Company.
CBRE Italy has also started to work on the achievement of the WELL Health-Safety Rating, focused on operational policies, maintenance protocols, emergency plans and stakeholder education to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and broader health and safety-related issues into the future.
